Cochrane osteopathy at Flourish Clinic treats the body as a whole rather than just addressing individual symptoms.
Ali Frederick, our Cochrane osteopath, is a registered manual osteopath who has been integrating tools from osteopathy in her treatments since 2011. She uses a combination of lymphatic drainage, visceral manipulation, and structural adjustments to support the body in healing as efficiently as possible.
What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a non-invasive and effective approach to health care using gentle, tailored manipulations to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal. Manual osteopathy can:
- Discover and treat the underlying cause of pain
- Improve fluid functions in the body and reduce chronic swelling
- Support gut motility and reduce gut pain
- Reduce pain and stiffness in muscles and joints
- Increase the range of motion in the joints
- Relieve chronic pain
- Decrease stress on the joints
As many of the functions in the body are related, osteopathy can support injury recovery while improving unrelated symptoms.
For example, the nerves of the digestive tract stem from the spine and pass through the muscles of the low back. What looks and feels like low back pain may actually be irritated or low-functioning abdominal organs. Slow or irritated bowel function can causes the muscles of the back to tighten. Our skilled Cochrane osteopath will look beyond the symptom(s) to identify where the root of your problem is situated.
If you feel like you’ve tried just about everything and are at a loss for what to do next, you’re in the right place.
Osteopath Cochrane
Osteopathy is a non-invasive, comprehensive approach to your health. It is a combination of the best aspects of both massage therapy and focused skeletal and abdominal manipulations.
Ali can help you overcome chronic pain in the Cochrane area with gentle osteopathic treatments.

I had a sciatic nerve injury and couldn’t work. My left leg literally shut down and I was in the most pain in my life. My chiropractor told me it might take 6 months to fully heal and I should see her 2-3 times a week for 4 months to start healing and that was normal in this situation.
I was lucky a good friend knew Mark and Ali and suggested that I go see them instead of my chiropractor. It was the best advice I’ve ever taken.
Six weeks later I was back at work with no more pain and my full range of motion back.
At the time of my injury I was really scared for my future and the amount of pain I was in every day. Dealing with theses injuries can be really rough but Mark and Ali are very professional and compassionate and took very good care of me.
Who do you treat in your Cochrane Osteopathy clinic?
Ali treats patients with a wide range of health problems including:
- Chronic swelling,
- Digestive disorders,
- Chronic infections,
- Autoimmune disease,
- Musculoskeletal pain conditions.
Patients who do best under our care:
- Don’t want to rely on unnecessary drugs and medical intervention for the rest of their lives
- Are interested in discovering the underlying cause of their problems, rather than just suppressing symptoms
- Want to play an active role in their own healing process
- Are willing to make the necessary dietary and lifestyle changes to support their health and well-being
In addition to the above, we find that many of our patients:
- Know that diet, exercise, and other lifestyle factors play an integral part in healing
- Feel that a combined approach between allopathic and alternative medicines is the most successful path to wellness
- Know that effort is required to achieve healing – it is much more involved than swallowing a pill
Think we should work together?
What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a safe and effective approach to health care which uses manipulations to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal.
Ali assesses the whole body as a unit and not just the area that is causing your symptoms. The fundamental belief of osteopathy is that the entire body must be working properly in order to achieve optimal health.
After the assessment, Ali uses a combination of gentle techniques like lymphatic drainage, joint articulation, myofascial release, visceral, and cranial. These manipulations also allow other areas of the body that may have been affected to heal and return to normal. As in the example of low back pain in abdominal pain – treating the organs of the abdomen can possibly relieve low back pain.

Are you covered by my insurance?
As osteopathy is unregulated in Canada, Ali is unable to guarantee extended benefits coverage at this time. She is registered with two colleges, Ontario Osteopathic and Alternative Medicine Association (O.O.A.M.A.) and Canadian Alliance of Alternative Medicine (ACMA).
Her license in massage therapy (2200hrs) is accepted by all extended insurance benefits. This license will be available in all her treatments provided at Flourish Clinic.
Check with your provider for the specifics of your plan.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
This depends on your plan’s coverage. Generally, no, you do not need a referral to visit an osteopathic practitioner. If your insurance company requires a referral, then it is recommended to acquire one beforehand.

While there are always individual variations, in general, acute conditions tend to improve in 3-5 visits. Chronic conditions duration are estimated on a case-by-case basis.
Ali and Mark were very thorough in asking the right questions and formulating a collaborative treatment plan that was specific to my needs. Within a few months, I was rehabilitated to the point where I could begin working with a strength trainer. Today my back is pain free. I am so grateful that Ali and Mark were able to find the right level of treatment in order to facilitate my healing at a pace that worked for me. In the last year, I have referred my family, friends and coworkers to Ali and Mark and every single one of them have had incredible results. Thanks again for providing an alternative healing solutions to a diverse range of health issues.
